Well here it is. Everyone always posts and asks about how to “open up” a zrt/tcat airbox and I chose to say screw the box and go with the 3 filter setup. I wanted it to look as close to stock as possible. I also wanted to retain the stock toolbox-Electronics setup. I toyed with mounting the electronics to the Oil reservoir but decided against it. I thought about making a whole new mounting plate off from the tunnel with the electronics and a Powermad clutch box incorporated somehow but after not being able to make it look the way I wanted it I gave up on that too. So I finally got the idea to just use the stock airbox top and fabricate a frame to hold it. So I mounted the rear to the steering post in 2 locations and made another mount that the front of the airbox snaps into and then that mounts to the carb rack. I also braced it under as well. It came out very well for about an hours worth of cutting, bending and welding. I then oiled up the UNI filters and mounted them to the carb rack.. but as you may have guessed even though they are the 45deg version they STILL hit the driveshaft ! So I ended up fabricating another piece that I bent and welded that covers the whole length of the driveshaft (like it should be stock) so the filters have something other then the shaft to rest on. Painted it all up and got it all back together. I think this will be much better then stock as I can get to the filters easily and I made it so there are only 3 bolts to loosen the whole system off and out of the way to get to the rack. Next to take on is new studs !!

I was thinking of scraping my airbox and going with K&N or UNI filters, What are the pros and cons of them? My sled is a 97 powder special 580, I do pretty much all kinds or riding( Powder, lake, trail) are they fairly easy to set up? Any help would be great, thanks

Looks good, did you rejet the mains, move the needles, and the pilot jets?
