I have always had full coverage on my sleds. my buddy said he called Wisc. Dnr and they said insurance is not mandatory. Who knows the facts on Wisconsin snowmobile Insurance laws.

You do not want to get into an accident without insurance

Unfortunately, no. Insurance is not mandatory for snowmobiles in WI. It is advised to carry it though, as with anything else, you are personally liable for damage caused (which as we all know can be quite costly). I would suggest carrying at least liability and medical which is fairly cheap.

Just my $0.02.

I wouldn't ride without it regardless of the law , My cousin got hit by a guy crossing a lake across the trail and was sued . The guy was a sue happy person and it took two years to settle the matter even with insurance . The guy that hit him got cash from the helmet mfg co. because he didn't see a warning to remove the protective plastic film from the visor and a settlement from my cousins insurance to make it go away. Imagine getting your pockets picked clean by slime like that if you didn't have insurance .
