how much different are these sleds?? pretty even in speed ??? and fuel consumption?? ride quality pretty close?? my buddy is looking at these sleds and this guy has one of each both in mint and the xlt he wants 1500$ canadian 7000 original miles on it it needs new shocks though, and it has been stored for 2 yrs, and he wants 3000 for the xc which is ready to go. i told him i think the xlt is the way to go. but i figured i would ask you guys so tell me what you think??

Even if the XLT was faster...which I don't belive it is..( my buddys 700 used to kill my XLT )..The ride of the 98 XC will be so much better...it would be good extra money spent.

Without a doubt, go for the XC. It's a true classic, and like the XLT before it, changed the direction manufacturers were going.
I've got an 03 800, and I still always wish I had a 98 XC 7 whenever I see one in the back of someones truck.

Go with the XC700, I used to have one until a hit a rock and barely damaged the bulkhead. The insurance company totalled it. It was still very much ridable but I took the money and bought an 01' edge x 600 and still kick myself for not keeping the XC700. My friend had a 95 xlt 600 and we raced and I beat him pretty good with the xc 700. We switched sleds, I wanted to switch back right away, the XC felt way better driving than the XLT. I heard that the XC700 had some problem, don't remember what it was, but mine was a perfect running sled

well i figured if he bought the xlt for 1500$ and spent 400 on new gas pro shocks and some plastic skis, hed be right aroung the 2000$ mark which is still 1000$ cheaper than the xc. how much faster is the xc?? the guy says that the xlt is amazing on fuel, far better than the xc is this true??

The xlt will get better milage (15-18 mpg stock) compared to the xc (7-8 mpg stock) maybe 10 if you play around with the jets. Ride quality will be better if the xlt is a special, but the xc handles better on the trails if you are aggressive rider. You can get the xlt to do pretty much the same things on the trail as the xc but you'll be tired by the end of the day.

I have a 96 xlt sp. I really like it. I think it would all come down to how much you want to spend on it. I am also a huge fan of the xc 700's. If it ias all about going fast, go with the xc. But for the price, if that is a deciding factor, go with the xlt. It all depends if your buddy wants to wrench on it for the shocks and the skis.

I am a little biased, but I really love my triple. I, personally wouldn't care if the xc was a little faster, I love the ride and handling of my xlt. If the sled was taken care of the mileage shouldn't be and issue, mine has 9000 on it and it runs perfect.

All in all, it is how much your friend wants to pay and how he is going to ride it.
