It's always been dangerous being the guini pig that buys any first year sled.............RX-1 was far from perfect outta the box in spite of Yamaha's supposed initial quality reputation.

Have you alreday done the deal or are you looking for mind changing info? I can't comment on the AC as I haven't rode one. I was after an Apex but up here they price them almost out of site! Just couldn't justify the coin. :dazed:

The Apex does not rail like a ZR.
Very similar power though.
I personally wouldn't trade as I like to run the twisties. But there is something to be said for the 4 stroke technology. Once they get the packaging nailed it will be the sled to compare.
I'd give it one more year before deciding. Today for me it would be a downgrade from a ZR 9.

man,,, rough crowd around here.
I really think yamaha hit a home run with this years line up, but you all know that cat isnt one to sit back and let everyone pass them by,,, they try to be the most agressive of all the big 4 with their advertising, and simply pushing the bar.
Cat didnt do much this year with their lineup,,,, so you know that there is something there,,, they are just waiting to spring it on us,,, I think they are taking a little more time to bring it to us because of the problems they had with the first firecats.
I know I wouldnt turn my back on cat right now as I have a funny feeling,,, MAN I CANT WAIT!!!

Apparently the Apex is a great solid machine. I really don't think it would perform quite like the ZR9, but it will be a fast, smooth, quiet, vibration free ride. You'll get better fuel economy with the 4 stroke, and would have AMAZING top end speeds, as Yamaha's power bands just don't quit......they just keep going faster, and faster, and faster.......However, it won't have the wholeshot of your ZR9. Also, I know there is an optional turbo kit for the Apex, not sure if it's OEM or aftermarket though, but that should bring the sled's performance up to par. I have also heard some people weren't very impressed with the Yamaha ski's either, but I guess that's not a big deal. As far as cosmetics goes, I personally think that Yamaha FINALLY has a lineup of sleds that look as good as the Arctic Cat's. I think you'd like the Apex.
For more on the sled, check out Powderboy's (your friendly neighborhood Arctic Cat "die hard") thoughts and opinions in this thread he posted in the Yamaha section.....

I just got back into snowmobiling 2 years ago. I bought 2 new Rx1's 2004's I love them. they are really a smooth riding sled and not problems (yet) ! this fall I bought a new F7cat and a carry over 04 1M mountain cat and i traded one of my RX1's in for an Apex. I love the Yamahas on the trail. The Apex is a total different ride then my Rx1. The power is awesome. Get off the trail in some deep snow and i feel the weight. Try getting some big air and the front end is heavy. The cats are alot of fun to ride and a lot lighter feeling. If your riding in alot of powder or deeper snow I do not think you will like the apex. If you ride alot of trails and or harder packed snow you will love it.
