ok 2 weeks ago took sled out of trailer when i got back home to ohio suspension frozen down thought huh just ice once i took it in the shop and it warmed up it seems to come back up ok but still not all the way about 1/2 low i pick up on the back and it comes up all the way .so i thought huh so i un bolted the rear shock on 1 end and man i had to use a crow bar to collapse it i pushed it in about 2 inches it comes back out but slow well i went with it and rode it on this trip and same thing after this trip too.i noticed my 2002 mxz 700 and my 2004 legend 550 fan i can put my knee on the rear bumper push down and it pops back pretty fast and smooth now my 2002 mach z it takes a lot to push it down and when it comes back up its real slow and you can hear like a buzz sound sounds like from the shock i dont know if its bad i thought if it were bad it would be blown out is that not true?i have 5000 miles on this shock.i had the skid out and all the shafts are free and i grease it every trip so give me your thoughts on this shock??when do you know when they are bad and how can i tell?
thanks
dave

After 5000 miles any shock is totally wasted unless its a Ohlin.
The springs are also pretty weak too but my guess is the shock has a lot of moisture in it and freezing up and what not. Water and oil dont mix, time for a new shock.
