I was just given this Duratech boat with a 50 horse Evinrude attached. It is in pretty rough shape and was completely full of mostly junk fishing equipment but I got it cleaned out and ready to ##### the damages. First thing was to prep the engine and see if it would fire, bingo, great spark and idled real nice after some cleaning. So as of now I think I have a good summer project I'm going to strip the dull blue off all the aluminum and paint the top a dark grey color. Next I'm going to redo the entire inside with new seats, livewell, and accesories. Going to use it for doing some Walleye trolling on the Saginaw Bay, just have to get a kicker.
I do need help on a couple things though. I'm not sure what year the motor is and was wonder if someone could tell by the info I have. Its a Evinrude Lark 50, model 50473M, serial E0009684, would like to get a manual, anyone?
Next, I'm looking for info on this boat. All I know is that it is a 15' Duratech, the registration is zero out for the year so it must have not been know at the time of registration.
Lastly if anyone here uses any good boating sites that are more geared toward smaller fishing boats please post them, I'll be looking for a good one.
Thanks Jason SWRules

Hey Jason:
Looks like a nice find.
This should help. I think if you click on 1974, then on 50, you will be pleasantly suprised.
Good luck!!
Edit: I guess it is not fully operational yet. Sorry. At least you know it's a '74 now.

Thanks Bluehaze, Just curious as to how you know its a 74? Also I don't know if I'm not doing something right but I can't seem to get any info from your link. I get down to the file with my model number but can't seem to get any info after that. Just curious to know if you did? Thanks Jason

Does the engine have electric shift? If so don't waste much money on it, the lower units are prone to breaking especially as they get old and parts are difficult to find. As for the 2 cylinder 50 they run well but have a habit of grenading pistons. Don't run it hard, go alittle rich on the mixture. From the pic looks like the engine is a fairly clean unit, must have been trailered in and out of the water. Have fun!

Nope, no electric shift on this one, its all manual. Thanks for the tip on the pistons, I guess of all motors this is the one to get as Evinrude parts are everywhere. The steering system on this thing is very bizarre to me, its basically two cables pullied around both sides of the boat and under the trim . The cables are pulled by the steering wheel which in turn pull the motor side to side via the pullies. I'm considering updating the entire setup to that of a newer boat.
Good info so far guys

Glad to hear it's got the mechanical shift  . The two cylinder 50's are usually pretty good runners. As for the steering, upgrade to the newer cable style, not that expensive if you buy the helm and cable as a kit. Measure carefully for the length and you'll need to buy a new steering wheel to fit.

You can update the steering from the pulley system to a cable system. But this takes some time and planning. I have done several of these conversions on old Boston Whalers. You can buy a complete steerring system for under $200 (its the cable and helm with steering wheel) from Teleflex. The tiller on the motor will have to be chaged to accept the cable. You have go to an Evinrude dealer or go on line to get the part.
If you need more detail on how all of this is done, please e-mail I would be glad to help you with all the detail.
