How would I go about installing a small radiator under the hood on my 94 polaris XLT 580? Would I run the pump directly to the radiator then to the heat exchanger? Or coming from the heat exchanger and going into the motor? I am doing a few mods and would like to keep temps down. Also I tore the motor apart and noticed the intake side piston skirts are scored. The cylinders are fine. I pulled a 114 psi from each cylinder. Can I use these pistons and re-ring them?? Thanks alot!!

Either way (before or after the heat exchangers) you would get the same net effect from the radiator. Question is, do you really want to go through the hassle of installing something like that? There are tens of thousands of these motors out there and I've never heard of mods causing them to overheat. I ran triple pipes with open intake on my XCR and never had any problems keeping it cool. It's your call.....

As for the pistons, if your sled has more than 3,000 miles on it, I would replace the pistons. The skirts get stressed after so many heating/cooling cycles and can crack and/or break off. Although, I had 8,000+miles on my XC triple before rebuilding and the pistons looked fine so reringing them may be OK.

If you rering, you can clean up the piston scuffs with fine emery paper as long as you don't remove too much material.

Hope this is of some help -
