My gauge was working and showing 1/2 tank when i bought the sled several weeks ago. Last weekend i noticed when i started up the sled the gauge showed empty, so i tapped on the gauge and it when up to half tank again. Then noticed it drop down. Tapped again and it moved up. Is this normal? Does the gauge only work when u are moving or something?
The gauge should work as soon as the sleds running sounds like you might have a bad connection. Was your heat or RPM goin squirly on you as well?. I had a voltage regulatar go last year on my old Formula Plus and it acted up as well. Is the sled indoors or out I left my sled out in the rain outside one night while I was at work and my gauges went all squirly for one day they were fine once they dried out. But it just sounds like a bad connection.
Did you check the sending unit on the tank?. You have to take the seat off to get too it. You may need to buy a new gauge too but should be able to figure it out.

nope dod'nt know how to take tank off and will not tru without instructions.
You don't have to take your tank off you have to take the seat off which is easy look underneath your tunnel at the back there should be 2 bolts and then their should be 2 nuts in the trunk at the back of your seat and the seat will come right off.

You will see a round thing on your tank with like 6 screws in it and there will be wires going to it just check to see if any have rubbed through or any loose.
This is simply a POS REV gage. Mine is also junk

I would doubt he put a REV gauge into a 98 Formula Deluxe 583.
If you can't find any bad connections, could it be possible that due to your sled only idling that you're not spinning the motor fast enough to produce enough electrical power to give an accurate reading?
Just a thought.
The reason the mechanical REV gauge frusrates so many people is that the tank is long and narrow and there's lots of room for fluctuating readings as the gas sloshes around in there and the angle of the sled has a big impact on the reading as well.
