I've been watching Snowtrails T.V. and I would love for someone to put together a S.W. Can-Am ride around Lake Nipising :thumbsup: I looks like a great ride !!! I've never riden in Canada....so I don't know what it would take to do it.....I'm sure someone here would know how to put something like that together

Just wondered if there would be any intrest in something like that? Of course it would be next year

Well I would deffinatly be interested in that I live about 20mins away in a car from Lake Nippissing and about 35mins on a sled I would help anyway I could also NewfieBullet lives in NorthBay I wonder if he would help as well.

Yep, it's a trip I've been meaning to do for a long time. It's doable in a day, and the total kms can vary greatly because there are huge sections of trail you could cut off by going on the lake if you were finding the day getting long. My suggestion would be to go counter clockwise for just that reason. If it's late the lake is staked from South Bay to North Bay.

Let me know when you're coming, I'll try to answer any questions you might have, and could maybe join you for the trip.

I've done that ride a few times. Once was a back breaker "get it done asap" ride, the others involved plenty of side trips and 2, 3 or more days. Take your time and enjoy some side trails. There is lots to see along the secondary trail around nip

Hey Snowmanmdp, if you want to ride in Ontario, I would suggest going to Wawa. it's about 3 hours north of Sault Ste Marie. Depending where you live in Michigan, it might be a shorter drive than to go to North Bay. Wawa is about 8 hrs from Port Huron (pulling trailer), North bay is about 6.5 hours. I have been to both areas many times and I prefer Wawa. There are some really fast and scenic loops you can do from Wawa. Lots of gas stations. Very few sleds to clog the trails. Coming from Michigan, you would be shocked(in a good way) at the lack of sleds on the trail. You can drive all weekend and see fewer than 30 sleds on the trail. Some of the trails are on old logging trails that are smooth as silk and 20 feet wide, with long sweeping turns where you can cover a lot of ground in a hurry. We usually ride for 8 hrs a day and we can ride 400-500 kms a day if the trails are in good shape. The trails are almost always in great shape. Little traffic and cold temps mean great trails most of the time.

If you are feeling ambitious you can drive to a place called Searchmont which is about 45 minutes north of Sault Ste. Marie. There are places where you can leave your truck/trailer for as long as you need for $5 a day. From there you got to a place called Halfway Haven (about 85 miles) Gas is expensive there. Two yrs ago it was $1.50 a litre (about $6 a gallon CDN) Then it is about 80 miles to Wawa from there. It is a great ride but you definitely want to call ahead to see if they have groomed from Searchmont to Halfway Haven to Wawa. If not I would Trailer to Wawa. Once in Wawa, the best place to stay is the Wawa Motor Inn. They have decent rooms and great food. You have to do the Dubreuilville Loop for sure. That is an unbelievable fast smooth trail.

I can't believe I'm telling people this. I said I was never going to tell anyone so it remain a hidden gem. If you go, you will probably tell all your friends also. I have rode in most areas of Ontario except the north west, and Wawa is the best so far.

I have a camp on Nippissing and have done the RAN ride a couple of times.
The first time we did it in a day and the other in a 4 day weekend.
We park at Martins Marina in Southbay and he has one cottage for rent with gas on site. The trail goes rite past his place onto the lake from his boat launch.
The time we did it in 4 days we just hit the lake each evening and rode back to the camp.
Next day we would take the lake back to were we finished the day before and continue on.
This way works best with a GPS on one of the groups sleds.
The time we did it in a day we used the lake to get between South Bay and North Bay because the over land route between the 2 is all over the place and the number of trail intersections can lead to you riding in circles if your not carefull. Riding it counter clock wise as already said would also be my advise if your going to doo it in a day and are starting out from North Bay.
