Hi guys, I've got a 1998 Yamaha 700 xtc dlx that the engine bogs on now when I get on the throttle from idle. I'm thinking it's the belt but want some other opinions before I go out and spend a 100 bucks on a new belt. The belt is stretched out some but is not worn side to side much. When I pull the belt forward on the primary clutch there's about 3/4-1" of play from the primary to the belt.(going straight to the front of the sled. (I know your suposed to measure from the center but that's just what I did at the moment)

Once I get up in the rpms it'll open up pretty good. If I've been putting around for a bit it takes a bit for the engine to come on and take off. Once I've had it up in rpms though it takes off good.

Thanks for the tips and advice.

Have you ruled out that this could be an ignition/carberator problem?

Has it been running like this since the summer?

I don't think that it's a ignition problem but it could posibly be in the carbs. It did it towards the end of last winter too. Never really noticed it to much but I was out on it tonight and it seemed to be a little bit worse. I put a new set of plugs in it before I went out on it tonight because the other ones had mysteriously fouled up on me. I'm not really sure what happend when they fouled up, I started it up when it was out side. It had only been about a hour or so since I'd been on it. I drove it to the house and it was running really rough so I checked and cleaned the plugs in our spark plug tester. The plugs were good up till about 100 psi after that the spark was hit and miss. 120 psi and it cut right out.

Clean your carbs real good and inspect them to make sure no needles are worn or anything they should look brand new when your are done. While you have them off check out the reeds real good maby even replace them, I had that problem with my grand touring except i hade to replace the rotor.
