I have an arctic cat 550 ext special and we thought it was a 1995 but i found something on the sled that said 1991 and since it was bought used at a dealer it is hard to track. the VIN has 1 number in the middle cut off so it isnt too easy to do that. I just want to find out more about this sled cuz i couldnt find any info at all just one picture that looked similar. except the prowlers looked similar.

thanks

It's not a 95, I can tell you for sure. There were no ext 550's in 95.
Too bad you don't have a pic, that would help.
Do you know how many gallons the tank holds? I believe it was 93 that Cat went withthe larger tanks, so if it has the smaller tank that narrows it down to 91 or 92. Larger tank and it's a 93.

not a clue on gallons but i do got a picture. it might be a 1991 cuz on a belt cover i believe it says 1991 but if i am not mistaken many of the parts have been changed so it could have been off a used sled.

I'm pretty sure that's a 91, but it's been a long time since I've seen one so I could be wrong.
They were nice machines in their day. If you can find a more aggressive track, such as a 1" staggered lug, and a set of basic plastic skis, it will make a world of difference for that machine.

look at your vin number,,, it will be stamped into the frame and unless if was changed, the first 2 numbers will tell you what year it is,,,, its that simple,,,

I've got a 91 EXT and it doesn't have that front suspension, suspect yours is a 92 or 93.
My 91 also comes with a 530 LC engine.

Yah the skis for sure need to be replaced. this was my dads sled because i was too young for it but he died and it is mine now that i am 15 and it probably needs a new track and skis. the shocks on this one are fox racing shocks but i am not sure if they came stock or not i am thinking not because of the way the gas chamber thing is attached with a hose clamps along with bolts but yah.
