I've been editing a bunch of tracks that make up some of the TOP trails & noticed a problem w/ some of them. Folks are posting a out & back track that is the exact same route. It is kind of difficult to delete 1 half of the route. It can be done but time consuming.
My suggestion is when you ride to a destination, save the track of that day's ride, then clear the track log. When you ride home, you create a 2nd track. These "single" tracks are much easier to join to other tracks or edit.

With my Garmin GPSMAP 76C I turn the track log off and then back on at each trail intersection when I am mapping trails. What this does is break the trail up into individual segments while still being considered one "track log". When I download to the computer each segment comes up as a stand alone section.
With the Garmion Mapsource software you can click on a point on a track and it will take you into the properties of the track. By holding down the shift key you can then select from that point either forward or backward to delete a section of track.
On another site rws solved my issue. Determine the "turnaround" point & click on it w/ the Track Divide tool. That splits the loop into 2 tracks. Then delete 1 of the tracks.
