Hi all,
Classic question I'm sure. My sled won't start after pulling out of garage.
I bought the sled new last season as a leftover. It ran great for the season.
To store it, I mixed Stabil in the gas tank and ran the engine a while to get
stabilized fuel throughout the system. I changed the oil. I connected a battery tender. I left a full tank of stabilized fuel.
Starter motor is spinning fine, but not catching. It had started fine a few times over the long storage period.
Was thinking about starting with pulling spark plugs to see if they're fouled.
Called local dealer and tech said either not fuel getting to carbs from tank or
carbs are fouled and need cleaning. He dismissed spark plugs.
Am I going to have to clean the carbs?
What other things should I check first.
Does anyone happen to have a Warrior specific carb-cleaning "how-to"?
Thanks!
BK

How hard would it be on that sled to either dribble alittle fuel into the cylinders through the plug holes or squirt some through the carbs just to see if it kicks? Sometimes sleds are just a pig to prime but once done there good to go.
Sounds like it was stored correctly, even fired up a couple times.

I know a lot of guys will blow in the tank vent line and it plurges the tank...I have heard alot of guys saying that it works after your sled is stored for awhile...I would try that first...

I don't understand why the dealer would dismiss the plugs. You mentioned starting it a few times during storage. I did that one year and thats exactly what happened...fouled plugs. Threw in a new set and it started right up.

This is your problem. If the bendix is not engaging, it isn't going to start no matter what you do with fuel or plugs. Those other suggestions are great if the engine was turning over and just not firing, but from what you said, its a starter issue.

Fishhog, Thanks.
Actually is turning over, but just not firing.
That's what I meant by not catching.
Thanks for the ideas, guys.

Bassklef if you go to totallyyamaha.com under the 4 stroke fourms you will find out what you need to know..In there it explains the whole blowing in your vent line and plurging the tank thing..Your problem sounds like a few of the other sleds there.....

FYI, my Fusion 900 is on it's original plugs. Over 1,000 miles on the sled, original plugs, used during storage. Started engine once per week, save one week. Put 200 miles on those plugs this season, still no signs of having to replace the plugs anytime soon. The machine is in the shop now getting her 1,000 mile checkup.
You're talking a 4 stroke engine, right? How could it have fouled the plugs during storage? My summer car is parked 7 months straight, I never have to replace the plugs due to storage (I'm aware that it's different on a snowmobile, but shouldn't be that drastic, should it?). I do however, change the fuel filter of my car after storage, as God knows what might have settled after so long, and how much of the gas still "gunked up" even with the stabil in it.

Well as a matter of fact, I got it started! Thanks for the purging idea, Sledman.
It was not fouled plugs, although initially they looked kind of bad. Sled has 1193 miles total, and I bought the plugs at the beginning of last season- the first season.
It was definitely lack of fuel.
Here is what I did:
1) Pulled plugs. Burnished them on a bench grinder with brass wire wheel. Sprayed electrical
contact cleaner on them and wiped off.
2) Installed the plugs. Tried start;no fire.
3) Pulled each plug individually and grounded it on frame. Turned starter to check spark.
Each had healthy blue spark.
4) Smelled each plug. Seemed not to be "gassy" smelling enough.
5) Looked for gas tank vent hose to blow compressed air. I couldn't find it so
I found 2 lines from tank into a junction-diaphragm-looking-thing just ahead of the carbs.
6) Pulled those lines and blew compressed air into the metal nipples
Kicked a few times after that, and then with choke wide open, fired up for real.
