It is a matter of opinion.

2 strokes are lighter (esp in the XP chassis).

4 strokes are more reliable.

Gas mileage is a draw. Modern 2 strokes are right there with 4 strokes.

Oil is another point. 2 strokes need injector oil to be ran all the time. 4 strokes do not need this, although oil changes are needed.

2 strokes are a lot more simple when something breaks. They have a lot less parts and are more compact.

I currently have a 2-stroke but would consider a 4-stroke. It seems that is the way of the future. I've heard some states are outlawing 2-strokes and once that gets going, it is bound to start happening in all states.

How can some states outlaw two stroke engines? I can't even see this as being possible. Thats like outlawing old and classic cars.

I would buy for the type of riding you do. I would own a 4 stroke if I primarily road groomed trails and own a 2 stroke if I was into mountain or real offtrail riding. I know that lots of Mtn guys prefer the 4s due to all the mods but stock for stock I would go 2 stroke. JMHO

There was a thread on this site talking about this. One person said it was happening in his state, fail to remember which one, where they were going to outlaw two-stroke motors on all types of recreational vehicles.

I couldn't find anything on outlawing 2 strokes but this. { I am fairly up on this subject by profession, and as of now, the EPA is not outlawing 2 strokes for consumers to use. They are implimenting rules for manufactures of 2 stroke products to reduce emissions on thier products. The direction that this has made most 2 stroke producers go is to 4 stroke for a quick fix. There are clean and efficient 2 stroke products out there such as direct fuel injection used by numerous manufacturers. There are direct fuel injected outboards capable of equal emissions as a 4 stroke, and use less fuel. I do not know of any implementation of emmisions rules to effect "model motors". I would assume it would effect weed eater motors as they have a larger usage in consumer products such as weed eaters. The EPA is not banning these items that are already out and in use, you just cannot manufacture and sell new ones that do not meet EPA emissions policies after the mandate.

The only exception to this is in California. They have a group called CARB (California Air Resources Board) who have successfully implemented a complete ban on non low emissions (conventional carb and EFI) 2 strokes for marine use. I am not sure on the particulars of this legislation, or if it is in effect yet.

Question for those of you in California: Does this legislation effect R/C boats?}
