My 99 mach z is a ##### to start. If you let it run too long on "warm up" it will flood itself, and resort to running on 2 cylinders. It is usually the middle cylinder or throttle side cylinder.

When I remove the plugs they are soaked with gasoline & (black looking)...If I remove them all and turn it over a few times, and dry the plugs off (or replace them) it will run fine. It seems to be a hit and miss issue, I now shut it down while I get my gear on, idle as little as possible.

The issue in on initial start up, after i run in for 10-15km i can leave it running, and there seems to be no flooding problem.

Is this normal ?
Idle @ -2 to -15 -- 1200-1500 rpm
Idle @ -20 to -40 -- 1600 - 2000rpm ish lol

it seems to idle very, very high when its cold.

I believe you should be idling around 1800 RPMS +- 200 RPMS. Check out stboni.com under the service page at the bottom. Select 1998 or 2000 as 1999 is not working. Select your nearest sled and compare the carburetor specs. Hope this helps you out a bit.

Do you shut your gas off when your not running or it sits for longer then a hour? I also would run some good gas cleaner in her. I alway shut off my gas even if I,am just going in for food and a beer . Also gap your plugs at 0.20 and make sure your primmer is pushed all the way in.

Are your plugs gapped? They should be 45mm. If this doesn't help go and have your carbs cleaned and balanced. I had the same problem when I first purchased my 1999 Mach Z three years ago. In three years never had another problem with loading up or coughing plugs. I can let the thing idle for 10 minutes in the driveway and no problems.Jamie
