Part of the EFI has to be replaced, I think every few thousand miles I could be wrong though. Its not cheap to replace it either. Do you know how many miles are on the sled?

1986 Citation LS
The early Polaris EFI sleds had a lot of problems. The biggest problem was the mechanics weren't very well versed on how to troubleshoot the EFI. There have been a lot of guys that have converted their sleds to carbs to get away from the gremlins.
The EFI works great when it works, some sleds have NO issues. No jetting changes for temp and altitude, two-pull starting almost every time. The big problem will be if you have issues. There won't be too many guys here that are willing to voice any advice on the electronics, so you may end up having to take it to the shop, where they may or may not have someone that can easily fix any problems you have.
Just some info for you, so you can go into the deal eyes wide open...
Never had a problem with the 94 Polaris 500 EFI my wife rides. It runs great! Over 4000 miles not one problem. I replace the battery every couple of years and that's about it.
