Default '86 ski doo formula sp 440 problems

I recently bought the '86 ski doo and have no manual with it and was wondering how do you adjust the secondary and where should the belt ride on the secondary pulley? Also the sled idles fine and runs fine until you smash the throttle and then it cuts out and will stall unless you come back off of it and it won't wind out it hits about 40 mph and then cuts out also it will run fine if you ease the throttle on until you hit 40 mph any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the belt should sit 1/16 above the secondary.
I'd clean your carbs and check the float level,, chokes, then make sure the carbs are synced.
and as always check the plug boots and replace the plugs.

Your belt is probably worn out ,, in and around 86, if you take apart the secondary.
(hold it down when disassembling and watch the spring position) there should be some shim washers that adjust how far the secondary closes, take a couple out
and put it back together.
