Default '98 Grand Touring SE seized

I got a great deal on a clean '98 Grand Touring SE the only problem is the motor is seized. It has been sitting for years so I'm not sure if that caused it to seize up, lack of oil or overheating. Is there a way to try and get it to turn over without doing a complete tear down first?.

i would heat up the locked up parts with a blow tourch...pour oil into the cylinders...let sit for about a day...and do the same thing over again...if its actually blown up...it could just be rusted tight...just do the same thing with the blow torch and oil...should be good...

one heck of a good question,if it was me,i would start by asking the original owner some questions,see what he or she says and go from there.some questions would be
-did the engine die for you and what where the conditions,remember,who,what,when,where and you will find out why
-did the engine die when running and at what stage of throttle opening,idle,mid range or wide open
-snow conditions,was it cold out,warm like spring,snow was crisp or melting,the engine will work harder in melting conditions and go hot,in the cold the air is heavy and engine will go lean
-was there ever a time when there was an orfice open to atmosphere such as the intake or exhaust removed for a period of time
-was the oil resevoir ran dry
-ever notice the engine ran better as it warmed up,this would indicate a lean condition
-ever remove the air box and run the sled
just some of the many question you should ask,just might help
but anyway,if in fact it is for sure that the engine is siezed,you will need to tare it apart
just a note: this is where i love my tools,i use a snap-on video camera that can reach inside the engine and other places so i can see just what the issue is before hand,just maybe and i mean maybe,a ring locating pin has somehow fanished and a ring moved,case solved.
so i hope you see where i am going here

Default Seized Engine

I wouldn't waste my time trying to free. Either way you need to at the very least pull the jugs off to see if its a stuck ring or a bottom end problem. If you free without looking and run more costly damage will almost certain come soon after. Ive seen where outside storage can sometimes allow some water to get in the bottom end and no amount of oil or heat will fix the pits that are in the bearings.

I agree with Speedzone, you might cause further damage by trying to start it. For example, if one of the bearings in the crank is seized, if you break it loose and pull on it, the pieces (and there will be pieces) will just scar up other parts.

You might be able to take the exhaust and carbs off and look through the ports at the cylinders, but if it is not turning at all, chances are you won't be able to determine much.

Unfortunately, I've got a bit of experience with seized motors, typically lack of oil. When it is the pistons, typically the crank will still rock back and forth slightly (1/16th of an inch on the clutch), if it is the lower end, nothing moves. This isn't set in stone, but it is pretty close.
