Default Info on 1991 Polaris Indy classic

Ok my cousin got this smoking deal on this 1991 Polaris Indy classic 500 and I need some facts on the sled and the 500 liquid cooled motor. And also how do you take the chaincase cover off on the wedge chassis? Any information would be appreciated thanks.

Check here for stats on that sled

If the chaincase doesn't have mechanical reverse, removing the cover is a matter of removing the bolts. There is no drain, so either tip the sled on it's side so you don't lose the fluid, or put a bunch of towels in the belly pan to absorb the oil when the cover comes off.

Here's a site to view Polaris diagrams, it may help you.

Those Ol' Indys last forever !! Mine 90 is still alive and fine !
Use good Oil and she will be a reliable sled !
Might want to check over the fuel line also.. especially the one in the tank..
Ethanol wreaks havoc on them old lines !

That's a good, solid, reliable, easy-to-work-on, lots-of-parts-available-if-you-need-them sled.

Do the basics and she'll last a LONG time... That motor is essentially bullet proof and Polaris used it in a lot of sleds for a lot of years.
