Default 96 vmax 600 ignition issues help please !

Let me start out with the history of this sled.
Friend of mine picked it up from his brother not running but in great shape and asked me if I could get it going for him. I told him sure I will take a look at it and see if I can get her up and running.
The sled ran and died suddenly on the middle of the lake and hasn't ran since
So I have the sled at my place and I'm starting to dig into her.

The reason is not running it no spark.
So I checked the resistance on the pulse coil and got 210 ohms
Checked the stator and got 290-300 ohms
Checked the coil and nothing no volts going into it..
So I figured right away the CDI was shot.
The previous owner already changed this in thinking that was the problem.. It didn't work
So we bought another CDI because the CDI he bought was used...
Same issue.. No spark!

So now I'm going to start testing the switches and throttle kill switch (dead man switch)..
When I started testing volts to various wires I noticed when I would pull the engine over the Lights wouldn't glow, Like all my sleds do when I pull them over, and thought maybe something is wrong with the ignition switch.

Since I've never owned a yammie I don't know if this is the case with them..

Will the lights glow when pulling it over even with the key off ?
All mine glow when the key if off !

If so I'm thinking the stator or maybe a bad ground ?
What wires off the stator should give me volts and how many?
Any ideas of what else to check ?

With the ground issue.. the engine was swapped once before and not sure if it is even grounded right..

Any help or direction on where to go next would be much appreciated !!

Well tonight I went out when it was dark out and pulled it over and the lights did come on

Still No Spark..

Correct me if I'm wrong..

Voltage regulator has nothing to do with the ignition ?
Volts from the pulse coil is cut off from the key, kill switch, and throttle kill switch to the CDI ?

So if I have volts out of the pulse coil and 210 ohms that part is good to go ?

Just don't know what wires to check on the CDI to see if the volts are making it to the CDI..

Thanks in advance !!

AND... Let the snow fly !!!!

Most of my friends drive ski-doo and when there sled dies on the lake they check the head light to see if it lights up when you pull it over. If it does not light up the stator is gone. I do not know anyone with a yamaha as well as me who has gone through a stator. Voltage regulator should not affect your spark. It limits the volts so you do not blow your lights when the engine revs up. Make sure the coils are grounded I blew a bran new CDI because the coils were not grounded properly. With that sled unplug the key switch and kill switch and see if you have spark then. TORS should not be an issue on that sled but unplug it from the carbs and plug the wireing harness connections into each other to complete the circuit. Hope this helps

Well my friend has the same sled and I went over with all 3 of the CDI's I have and they all work fine.

I took the recoil cover off and inspected the pulse coil and it seems fine.. 210 ohms when I brought it inside and warmed it up.

300 ohms on the stator and my lights are coming on when I pull it over..

Unplugged the key and kill switch and connected the TORS wires together and still no spark..

Could it be the coil?
I'm getting no volts to the coil at all..

I'm baffled

Help !! My friend is bummed !!

You said your friend has the same sled so swap a coil or both to see if it is the coil. But first start the sled in the dark to see if you have spark jumping from the cap to the head. The caps could be worn out. I'm sure you have tried this but mabey the plugs went at the same time. I have only popped 1 at a time but you never know? Try your plugs in your friends sled. Check your wire harness for burn marks and electrical tape that may be hidding a problem. Hope this helps
