Hey all I am not an avid forum user an may be doing this wrong but I am at a loss with a little barn find I have acquired... It's a 78' John deere spit fire 340 f/a. I have put some elbow grease and a lot of time into it. She is running like a dream but the lighting system is a mystery to me. I have tried putting new head lights in an it blows them promptly , with a meter on the plug I get only a/c voltage ?????? Is that normal ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Stator plates generate AC current, bulbs don't care. It's likely that the voltage regulator that goes to the lighting is bad, leading to blowing the bulb. What is the voltage at the headlight socket? Anything above about 14 volts would indicate a bad regulator...
