Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for a new exhaust setup. Running stock right now. Looking for a hp boost. Is the right thing to do? This sled is bullet proof right now. Am I asking for trouble?

the cheepest and most effective way to get a good boost out of this sled is to have the timing advanced while getting a tune-up, about 4deg is good enough. also, this sled has the 34mm round slide carbs, have your dealer or someone reliable to install a set of UFO's. last but not least, install a set of heavy hitter clutch weights. these are awsome and will suprise you how well they work for excelleration. also, my sled has a 2'' bighorn track and lift kit. I also installed my own valve for jetting, no more jet changes, I can jet for altitude and temp by adjusting this valve.

Thanks! What is a UFO and what does it do? Also, you mentioned a valve for jetting. The '98 comes with ACCS. You have a valve for temp?

UFO's are small plastic pucks that fit under the slides of your carbs. these little pucks make your carbs perform as good and in some cases better than flat slide carbs. on my rmk, they gave such a good boost in fuel mileage i could hardly believe it. after a days worth of rideing, some of my friends sleds were bone dry by the time we got back to camp, and i was still between half to three quarter full of fuel. this UFO also gives better power in low to mid range. APPROX-1hp per 100cc's. The valve that i was refering to is a shut off valve for air, this replaces the accs altogether. you simply turn the valve to the closed position slowly to lean the mixture or open it to richen the mixture. you should have a set of peromiters to monitor the changes in temps of your cylinders. (exhaust gas temp.) JUST REMOVE THE ACCS AND REPLACE IT WITH A SHUT- OFF VALVE. I start off with the valve at the wide open position, this will make your mixture very rich, then start to close the valve until the sled runs better. it does not matter what temp it is or altitude.(USE A GOOD QAULITY VALVE)

Have you piped your sled? I've talked to a few who have and most say there sled has become a little tempermental after piping it. You agree?

Where do ride most? The last few years I've been riding mostly in revelstoke and quite a bit down in the Crowsnest Pass, just west of Lethbridge.

I have never piped this sled because it just isn't worth it. the pipes dont give you any more peak power from this engine because the stock pipe is doing it's job just fine. I was told by a performance mechanic that the timming advance was what was making the power and not the aftermarket pipes, go figger? hmmmmm. so i did this and you guised it , it works, no pipes, so keep your money in your pocket and go with the clutching. I also ride in the same places you ride, heck mybe we passed each other without knowing it, LOL. I will be going this boxing day to REVELSTOKE, staying at the SANDMAN INN, maybe you could make it and i could show you exactly how well my sled works. nothing is better than seing it first hand.
