Are the NADA/KBB Guides Accurate as to Pricing?

We are considering purchasing two 2002 used sleds, both Cats, both well taken care of, not beaten, adult ridden.

One is a Z370 with 1250 miles, the other a Z570 with 2129 miles.

KBB/NADA places the Z570 at $2140 Average Retail and the Z370 at $1440, however, the seller is asking $4500 for both of them, which is $1000 more than what the guides are saying they are worth.

Should we make a fair offer to the seller based on the listed retail values of these two sleds of $3600 or should we expect to pay higher than book value in a private sale?

These are first timer sleds for two newbies, so we have no idea what a fair price would be for them. We do know the seller personally and we know they treat their toys very well.

We appreciate any info you experienced sledders can offer us. THANK YOU!!

The KBB prices indicate what you would pay for a sled in good condition, prepped at a dealer. That means you can find those sleds at that price in good condition at the dealer. Usually, private sales go somewhere between the retail and wholesale price. I would never pay MORE than the retail unless the sled had some significant reason for costing more. It's a buyer's market right now, I would offer half between the KBB wholesale and retail and walk if the guy doesn't take it. There are a LOT of sleds out there for sale...

Thank you BCDAN!!

Based on your advise, I took the average price between NADA and KBB for each and came up with a total of $3400 for both of them together ($1400 for the 370 / $2000 for the 570).

So, an offer of $3400 for both sounds of them would be fair correct?

He can only say no. It will all depend on the market in your area, and his perceived value of the sleds. Some guys think their stuff is golden. But you can find sleds for near the KBB retail price pretty easy, and most private sellers post their price at less than that. It's definitely not an insult price.

Good luck on your search!

No sense in getting taken. Just because someone thinks their stuff is the most expensive stuff out there doesn't make it so. Good luck to you, you will find the PERFECT sled for a GREAT price, because you are willing to do what you did.

two thumbs up!
