My friends and I are thinking about giving these a try. We've never used radios in the past mostly because of the cost and all the extra crap that you carry around that you don't need. This set up looks pretty good though as its just a stripped down verson of the Platinum 900. I can think of many times playing in the woods and someone gets stuck but you can't find them or worse yet both people are stuck and your both clueless. This would be a handy item to have and its less $$, does anyone out there have this SnoFone yet or have one on order? Just looking for info on battery life, length signal will reach, and how bulking the unit is? I going to keep an eye open at Novi, sometimes dealers get special promotional pricing on these newer products.

Ooops, forgot the link

Funny, never thought the need until you mentioned the 'lost' part. Son and I got seperated last year, ended up taking different trails as the sun set and had a rather anxious hour till we met up. Perhaps something like this would have come in handy.

What about just bringing your cell phone with you? New cell phone batteries last days on end, and you'd only really need to use it snowmobiling in an emergency.
I think that would solve the problem.

When Hell freezes over... I'll snowmobile there too!

One word "Nextel", those of you in Michigan will know what I mean . For me the SnoFone would also work well when someone in our group spots a good turnoff to a great play area, the rest of the group could now be clued in.

There is massive tracks of land in Ontario alone, that have no cell phone signal, one of those MIKE walkie talkie phones would solve that issue though.

Anybody ever use a system like this with a Modular helmet? Not sure how using that mic would work, my big melon fits pretty tight without any extras at all. I'd probably wind up chewing on the thing.

We use Chatter box for the amount of channels availible. We have them in out helmets which are mostly modular and they work pretty good. The VOX operations sucks but the PTT works well. THe remote microphone inside the mask kinda sounds garbled just like you would think but it is not horrible. The boom mic would work better I am told but for some helmets I just can't see it. I think you would be fine with it on a modular as they mics are pretty small and out of the way.

Nextel does rock but I think for a real hardcore sled head that is going to be out in the wilderness you need a satalite phone.

I chose chatterbox for the range and channels.
