The only scary thing about the 99 model is the aggresive chassis weighs a ton get a 2000 in the genII chassis then the only thing you have to be scared about is it is scary fast.

Buy the 99XCR They are the fastest of all the 800 XCRS. Don't fool yourself on the chassis it is very close to the same weight as the Gen II and will handle on the trail better when setup right. If you want the ride of the 01 or 02 xcr800 than put the PPS shock in the 99. If your looking to buy this to jump with you will be unhappy as its a trail racer not a mogul masher. It may not be the first thru the moguls but watchout when you hit the straight away they won't see anything but you tail light.

Been running a 99 800 XCR / M-10 this season. Couldn't agree with Polar800 any more. It's not something I would want for MX style action, but when it comes to trail or lake work the only word to describe it is awesome. Maybe it's a couple pounds heavier (what maybe 10 or 15?) than the GenII but so what? Maybe thats whats getting me through the chatter bumps so well. Go with what you can get a deal on, don't be scared of the aggressive chassis.

Any XCR motor after 99 is a eye opener.  I had a 97 XCR600 in the aggressive chassis and loved it.  Once you dial it in you do not feel the wieght.   My friend had a 98 600 and we are going down the 800 top end route for his next year. I sold my 97 and have a 01 GenII now. Having a harder time dialing on my GenII than I did the aggressive body. As far was weight goes I feel my Gen II is a pig in the garage.  Once under power it's a whole other story.
The hood on the Gen two is tucked in a bit more, but from the bars back it's the same scooter.
My option the 99 is a quick ride..and very realibale and flies decent as well.

yes that chassis is like a tank, my buddy has one and when he gets stuck i feel like leaving him there alone because it seems so awkward to get out and also the aggressive chassis is not the sharpest looking sled either. go for a 2000 if u can get one,its a much better looking sled.
