My buddy and i just bought bran new revs with BRPs special that they were having. We were riding around the yard when smoke started to come from his engine. We opened it up and saw that there were small flames near the brake disc behind the muffler. We threw snow on it and got it out. Fuel line, oil line, stater rope and oil tank all have to be replaced. It only has 33 miles.

As far as we could tell, the brake locked-up and over heated enough to ignite the lines. BRP is going to cover it under warrenty, but now hes without his new sled for the weekend.

I was just wondering if anyone else has seen or heard of this happening, even the dealer said he had never seen it.

This has happened to a few other REVs. BRP and dealers will usually say the parking brake was on, but they always cover something like a fire. Most of the riders that this has happened to insist the brake was not on, so probably some faulty components caused it.

I've seen this a few times in the past but not on a new sled. Most times the brake was left on. There was one that had been pushing through 3' of fresh powder for about 4 miles and when we stopped the flames shot out of the side panel on the exhaust side.
That had our attention to say the least.

The sled is moving and the brag is dragging causing a lot of friction. FRICTION=HEAT=FIRE

I left my parking brake on once and the sled wouldnt even move! SO I find it hard to believe they are leaving the brake on, but could be I guess. Who Knows!!

Twice the heat there... Both the brake pads and the belt going up in smoke. Can't understand how someone can drive off with the park brake on, the dash warning light on (oil light on older models) and not notice lack of ooomf.

Speaking strictly from my personal life's experiences, I'd say yes.[/b]
I also would check the brake disk to see if its warped and shaft see if they are true I once rented a sled for a freind and they had the brake set to tight .and I opened the hood after 2 or 3 miles the disk and shaft was red hot .All shot.

I can't imagine how the sled would even move with the parking brake on, and I REALLY can't imagine how you wouldn't notice the brake on.Just doesn't make sense.

the parking brake was definitly not on, he was using the brake, or at least pulling the handle, while he was riding it. The first thing the dealer asked was if the parking brake was on.

I didnt think about checking the shaft, ill have to tell him to tell them. :dazed:

the brake pad locked up and heated itself and averything around it, thats how it cought fire.
