butterfly style mikuni carb off a 79 yamaha 340 enticer. I know how to adjust the mikuni slide carb chokes by measureing the slack in the cable. Does anyone know how to set the choke on the mikuni butterfly style carb? Or what should the slack dimensions be for the choke cable?

The 79 ET340 had the B38-34 Mikuni Carb (butterfly style). To adjust, do the following in order:

a. Throttle cable adjustment: check free play of the throttle lever (at the thumb on the handlebar - it should be 0.5 - 1.0 mm.

b. Starter cable adjustment: pull up on the starter cabel sheath and measure the distance between the end of the sheath and the adjuster - it should be 0.5 - 1.0 mm.

c. Oil pump cable adjustment: pull up on the oil pump cable sheath and measure the distance from the end of the sheath to the adjuster - the free play should be 25 mm.

d. Idle mixture adjustment: set the idle mixture screw (1 turn). Also, start the engine, warm it up and adjust the idle to 1500 - 2000 rpm with the throttle stop screw. Turn the idle mixture screw in or out, 1/8 turn at a time until the engine idles at the fastest speed. Then adjust the idle speed to 1500-2000rpm with the throttle stop screw.

e. Jetting: Be sure to set the proper jetting - these are standard: (main - 155), (slow jet - 50), (pilot jet/intermediate jet - 90), (idle air screw - turns out - "1").

Hopefully this will help.
