It may not quite be 85hp, but I know its more than 70hp.

I had a 96 Indy 500, and a friend had a 97 XCF 400 and he could hang with me until about 75-80mph.

The xcf440 in 99 can with cylinder reed assist and had about 68 hp I beleive the xcfsp had nicil cylinders and dif port timing and it put out a little more than that the sp will out run a indy 500 fuji and was the fastest 440 fan produced as it won all the cross country and lake races in it's class the cat 440 fanner cam out with more power in 01 to compete with the Polaris right now they are about even but this year polaris did some more changes with heads portiming etc and ran into timing problems as the timing was too hot.Out of the box it was reported that these performed like last years 440 liquid but they did not last as long as the timing was too hot on some sleds and some of the cdi boxes have to be sent to Polaris for reprograming so if you have one of these make sure yours is not one of them if it is send the box to polaris race dept to get it reprogramed.

Id agree that its right about 65-70 hp. I had a '99 Polaris Sport and I know those were right around 60 hp. I also had a '99 Polaris 550 SuperSport and those were about 70-75 hp.
It seems like the XCF's motor was a little bit more hopped-up than the Sport, so 65 hp sounds like a pretty good number.
Back when those first came out I wanted one really bad. I got the chance to ride a 550 Pro-X that was all built-up for snocross racing and it was a nice sled. It was light, reasonably fast (I had it up to 80 mph on the speedo) and you could pound that thing over bumps and off of jumps as hard as you wanted and it would NEVER bottom.
Its a shame Polaris chose to discontinue the Pro-Xs. They were and still are awsome trail sleds.

I dont know about that. I think the 440 XCF prolly puts out less than 70hp - only because they do not perform as well as Indy 400, which at that time puts out 62hp. If I had to take a real good guess - the hp would be close to 60. I doubt they go any higher for a 440 fan. Anyone? WL.

The XCF wasnt your typical fan-cooled sled. It was meant to be a racer, so it had different porting than the 440 fan that the Sport got.
It also had cylinder-reed induction, so it made a little more power than the standard 440 fan.
Id say its about 65 hp.

A little? How much is a regular 440 fan puts out - maybe 45 or so? So if you think its about 65hp for 440XCF- thats a gain of 20 hp differences. If this was a liquid cooled, then I would understand but not for a fan cooled. I may be wrong but Polaris isnt known for having anything with high output unless you do any modifications. WL.

The standard 440 fan puts out a lot more than 45 hp, more like 60 hp.

Maybe you are right but too bad - you ride 600cc sled, say 113hp. Mine is close to 155 - 158hp XCR8 triple. :bash: That will outshine your 600 and your wisedom of XCF440. w00t WL
