I would ride it first before adding any more picks. I have had first hand experience with having too many and it isn't a good thing. I don't think you would have a problem jumping up to 144 but make sure you install longer carbides to compensate for the added traction in the back. The only difference between the stud pattern for 96 and 144 is adding studs to the outer belts.
