I have a 02 800 EFI ZR and have a Black Magic clutch kit and a D&D kit. My buddie has the same 800 ZR geared 23-40 but otherwise its still stock. I am going to test the two kits in my sled against his. Which clutch kit do you think will work best and give me the most gains? With just gearing his sled kicks a$$. We were at a derby and lined up against anyone who felt lucky and he rocked em every time. After I test the kits I will post the results.

23-40 gearing? What are you guys racing a 660? If not then I would gear it UP not down. Everyone that knows how to make the 800 twins run all gear up and load down the motor.

Also-when buying someones clutch kit, remember that the clutch kit was designed around the stock gearing, not different gear ratios. Dont expect it to work very well with different gear combinations. Even the slightest gear change can throw off everything.

I will test the kits with stock gearing but it seams that his 800 runs very strong with that ratio. We run stubble fields and they are only about a 1500 feet from road to road and I need a couple hundred feet to take off and to slow down unlike sunday when a farmer built his own road in the middle of the field and my buddie hit it full speed. I paced it off and his track touched back down after 70 feet. I saw the road right at the crest of the hill and was on my brake and still smoked it hard .

I have to agree with newf, I have a D&D setup in my 02 ZR 600 EFI. All I can say is wow! This thing hauls @$$ now. I don't know if I lost any top end , i know with most kits you will lose some. For the acceleration you gain from the kit it is worth it.

gear UP!!! 23/40 ain' sh&@,25/38 or 26/37. 23/40 will still be spinning the track when you get to the other side of the lake!we tried just about ever gear combo and 23/40 couldn't touch 25/38 or higher.too much track spin.the D&D kit will be way better than BM's crap, but you will be better off with some 72 or 74 gram weights.the 82's and the heavy springs are going too hurt your mid-range!

Ordered the B/m clutch kit for my 800 efi twin. Heard lots of bad things about B/M after I got the kit(figures). Finally had a chance to run it against buddies 700 xc.I picked up 7-8 lengths in 1000 feet. We were both shocked at how much the kit picked up the sled. Would like to get the D&D kit and compare the two but it would cost this poor canadian too much moolah to get it here. Damn canadian dollar.

Hey fastcat who are you ? I live in Regina also. Last night I had the black Magic kit installed and I hung a dirty lickin on the stocker 800 ZR. From the hole shot it was several lengths but if we did a roll on at 40 I was still stronger but the stocker was a threat and I couldnt let him get me on the trigger or I would not be able to pass him. On a flat out race he would pass me top end but by then the 1000 ft mark was passed. The only variable that is between us is that I have an arctic cat 1.6" lug track and he has 1.25" lug on his Xcountry that could explain the top end.

Excellant, another Regina Boy. I was layin a lickin on that 2002 xc 700 until he geared his, now he is a length ahead. I got a 120 pound weight disadvantage in my corner. This machine still hauls even with my big butt on it. I was impressed.
