There is hardley any weight on the tail gate with the sled facing forward. I have been all over the midwest that way and it works great, I load and unload buy myself if there,s a good looking trail .

I have a 5 foot box 2003 Dakota quad cab with the gate down it hangs out a few feet no big deal. I would strongly recommend you get a good tie down strap not the cheep red and blue ones you can get at Costco. I bought one rated for 15,000 pounds I know it over kill but if my tailgate lets go my sled will stay in the truck. If you do get a mid size truck you will have to put one ski up on the wheel well because it will not be wide enough to fit between, when you do that it puts lots of pressure on the tailgate.

well, looks like i got a trailer for this winter. Dont have to worry about heave hoing.
