Cdi Box Needed, And Don't Want To Pay Arctic Cat Pricing

Here is the issue,
I lost the CDI box on the cougar over the weekend. I figured it out by swaping parts from an identical sled onto mine until it ran again..

The issue I am having is the local (well in the state of michigan) do not have a used CDI box, Arctic Cat wants $261.00 for it. I know there are after market CDI's available, but my local dealer looks at me with the impression that I am a monkey tring to do something with a football.

Dose anyone have a local shop with a brain that can help

here are the specs
1995 Arctic Cat Cougar 550

I figure I have some time since the temps next week are supose to be in the 50's here. So shipping time is not an issue.

Any help is appericated.

$261 is a pretty good deal. CDI P/N 3004-099 is $444.99 CDN ($379.23 USD). Unless it was really cheap, I don't think I would buy a used CDI, stator, etc.
I found an aftermarket one at http://www.royaldistributing.com/ click on "2007 snomobile" and find CDI in the alphabetical index. They have one for $87.00 CDN dollars ($74.20 USD). For some strange reason, Dennis Kirk didn't list one for the 550 Cougar?

good luck!
Wow $75 is cheap!!! I figured he would have more into that CDI than I'm going to have into my engine rebuild. Mabye not. We'll I can always hope my pistons and rings are cheaper than that.
Hope he lets us know if it is any good, or if he got ripped off. at that price it sounds to good to be true??
A rule of thumb when it comes to electronic controls is always use the oem part or find the manufacturer that makes the oem part. There are those occasional few oem items that are crap but they are far and few between.
You may or maynot get a good one.
You honastly would be better off getting a used oem cdi from a bone yard. Provided you only pay 10 beans or so.
Sometimes cheapin out only cost you more in the end.
I wouldnt be afraid of looking for one in a salvage yard at all,,, I have one that I have dealt with a couple of times for parts and they have always taken care of me,,, for the life of me, I cant find it anywhere on google right now,,, if your interested, pm me and I will get a slip from them and get you the info.
I agree. Why buy new when used will do(As my junk yard owning boss used to say).
Like I said, I need help finding somewhere to get parts. The 2 Bone yards that I know of in the Grand Rapids area don't have anything.

If anyone knows of others in Michigan / other states, please let me know...

Thanks
