I'm just finishing up the restoration on my '79 Yamaha 440 Exciter. After changing the track, I need to refill the chaincase with fluid. My question is what should I use and also how much should I use?

Thanks in advance,
-Colin

In the old sleds I always use regular trans fluid. Probably 6-8 oz's. Kevin

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the trans fluid tomorrow. Unfortunately, no level indicators anywhere to be found.

"On 1979-1982 (yamaha) models, manufacturer recommends using SAE-75 or 80 gear oil with an API classification of GL-3. To check chaincase level remove oil level plug at bottom of chaincase cover. Oil level should be even with bottom of level plug opening. 1979 EX440 holds 10.8 oz."
