changing my gearing from stock to 23/40, will I lose lots of top end and should I do any clutching if I do this

why would you want to gear down, gear up ! the 800 already has plenty of bottom end power. replace the stock gears with 25/38, you wont spin near as bad and acceleration will be increased. good luck

Well, I don't know about the stock clutching but try one change at a time and you can use the stock 72P chain with 25/38 gearing.
