what causes a crank seal to go bad? i took my jag motor apart 2day to put the new seal in it, and the seal looked alright but it popped out. but b4 the seal popped, it wouldn run rigght it would idle really high and stall. then after all this the pto seal popped out. so is it possible the seal starting leakig b4 it poped out i know its a wierd question but see if u got answers

The idle was high probably because the seal was allowing air in, making the mix lean. So, the seal was probably leaking before it popped out. If you look at the seal, you may be able to see where it is damaged and leaking. Did you grease the seal when you installed it? That helps give 'em longer life...
