Guess what boys!
Last week mentioned i was having tuning troubles with Jaws pipes at high elevations well turns out piston had a burn
hole about the size of a ball point pen? It was just above the
locating pin on ring land giving this side about 80 psi. What do
ya think,to lean or rings getting bad? My dealer says the 2000 models were a little harder on rings, anyhow he's sending me the parts and i should have her back together sunday.P.S only
2100k.m.on it

Hey that is pretty crapy news. I also have oo/7oo summit and i am getting close to 3000kms now. You have me a bit worried. My pistons and cylinders look good as well as my rave valves. It has as much power as it did when i bought it (with 300kms on it) so maybe i have a lucky model. Good luck

Its running, or has at some time, ran lean. Very first indication of a lean condition is around the piston ring locating pin. Why? Because its steel and retains the heat generated by the condition more so than the aluminum.

Thanks guys
I think maybe i did get it to lean when i was tuning in the
mountains it was running crappy so i knocked it down 2 jet
sizes, then on the way down it started running on one cylinder
thought it was killing a plug. Guess we know the rest of the
story.I wasn't sure if the locating pin was a sign of being lean
as most of the ones i've leaned out before took the exhaust
crown off.

                        Thanks again GOAT

Definately ran it too lean.  What was your needle at?  Typically when you main jet down, you should move your needle clip down to the next higher positon, with #1 being at the top of the needle.  Ski-doo's  have always run a little lean in the midrange.   Also, when you re-jet you should do plug checks at 1/4,1/2 and full throttle to make sure you don't have a burn down.
