Well I knew it would happen. After 2 months of riding I want to modify my sled. The riding we do here is strictly deep powder mountain riding. My 96 EXT 580 needs help in the4 floatation dept. Currently it has the cat 1.4 track. I know I need a 2 inch - I am wondering what else I can do (besides sell it) to enhance its deep powder capabilities. What are the benefits of aftermarket tunnels? If I added a 3 inch drop kit to the back would I have to move the front down an equal amount? what about a roller secondary? Has anyone piped the 580 efi and had success? Thanks!

Mountaincat, if your gonna change the track and go to a bigger paddle up the length to 141 or 144, I think you should still have the power to turn it. Might have to gear down. As far as the roller clutch defintely get one as soon as you can. That really helped up my extreme. Kept me in the powerband. Where are you from? Powder is all we ride here. Nothin beats boondocking. IMO.

I am from Houston B.C. near Smithers about 200 miles from Prince George. There is a ton of powder in the moutains again this year. I see a 144 by 2 inch track in the paper with suspension and all. Its exspensive though at $400 for track and $400 for suspension.I can pick up a used 136 by 2 inch for $250 in good cond. I think I need smaller drivers for this - when I do this - do I need to regear the chaincase?0

you can put smaller drivers on or you can roll the chain case. You may have to change the gearing. Got a buddy with one i'll try to find out what he put in. The price for the 144 sounds about right. It's worth every penny. You don,t have to keep it hammered every where you go. Went riding with bunch of sleds yesterday. Over 2 feet of fresh fluff on a 3 foot base. The 136x2 were stuck all day. The 141x2 and longer were cruising like they were on the trail. Huge difference.
