I'm looking around for a less expensize sled and have run across a couple of summits. Is there a difference in suppension on the 97 summit 583 vs. a 98 summit 583. I also found a 98 summit 500 for $1100. Is there a huge power difference between the 583 and 500 and is one engine better than the other.

Thanks for your help

I would go with the 583. Nothing wrong with the 500 just the 583 has more HP & torque. If you go on the Ski Doo web site you can lookup the specs on any sled from 1997 to now :D

huge differance , no. little differance yes. I smoked a couple 583's with a 98 500 that I wish I had to show a few guys today what a 500 can doo. the 583 is faster up top but all around the 500 is good. how high you are climbimg may make a bigger differance than I have seen. I had been beaten by more 583's than I beat . I want to make that clear. the 500 is better on fuel  . I personally think all those rv's were good power makers in their respective classes. the doo 500 would hold its own against some of the best 600 class sleds.

Yeah FB is right, the 1998 Summit and MXz 500s had a recall for primary clutch governor cup spline engagement. The clutch would become a balistic missle if over reved. Too late to have the recall done as the manufacturer only need to honour them for 5 years.

Thanks for your help. The ski doo web site helped. Thanks for the warning against the recall.
