Finally got my sled on the trails

I finally got my sled on the trails today.  The trails were rough, but it was fun to finally get out there.  I'm learning very fast.

I learned today that once you get over the initial surpise, only having 1 ski on the snow isn't so bad.

I learned that if you see a sudden trough going across the trail, that it only hurts worse if you jam on the brakes and go over it half sideways.

I learned that the rear suspension on my sled is WAY too soft.

I learned that little po-dunk snowmobile stops in Woodford VT charge $2.40 per gallon of gas.

I learned that 4 hours of loading and unloading for a 2 hour ride is still worth it.

Congradulations for also being crazy enough to go to Woodford on a weekend. How was the traffic and doo they have enough snow there yet?

Traffic actually seemed light.  I rember being nearly run off the trails much more frequently last year.
The trails are so heavily traveled that there really isn't ever a ton of snow on them.  They were well covered with a solid base, but they were pretty bumpy, especially at the end of the trail in Readsboro where we went in.  There were police all over the place too.  My big mouthed buddy told us all about how he was just going to run if they pulled him over (He was planning to register the sled in Woodford when we got there).  10 minutes later we saw him sitting on the side of the trail getting written up.
10 minutes later 3 state troopers passed us.  In all, I saw at least 8-10 troopers throughout the day, and we only took about a 35 mile loop.

I feel bad for the local families that have their weekends ruined by out-of-state idiots who feel the need to drink 12 cans of liquid courage and do 100.  Even i have to admit they need the law on those trails in woodford, and i am anti evnironmental police.  They are usually a  huge waste of tax dollars.
Sounds like a blast!!!
Glad to see you're learning !!!!! Now you need to learn to come to Maine for some gooooooooood riding.. :D But watch out for the idiots, We have em too..

Holy crap! This post came back from the dead. Somebody's been digging through the archives!

My learning curve was a very steep one. I'm already riding at a pace that's beyond what most of my friends ride at (they've all ridden since they were kids), and I'm hard enough on my sled that I'm breaking stuff at a pretty constant pace. I even managed to bend my drive shaft already this year. :D
