91 Formula Plus 521 single rider setup. 3100 Kms on sled.
Here are the symptoms. Last night after my buddies chain case grenaded we had to ride 2 up on my sled. After 5 Kms the sled started to slow and really drag. It felt like the brake was on. When I let off the gas it slowed very quick. Then with just me on it it would take off and run great. He gets back on and 1 km later it does it again. We repeated this cycle and eventually made it back with some help from a fellow sledder. The belt is 1 yr and 500 kms old. There is slight glazing on the sides and the belt sits flush with the top of the driven clutch at rest. The brake disk feels a bit loose on the shaft with a bit of play both rotational and perpendicular to the shaft. The brake felt cool. I did notice earlier that the braking was above normal with it being easy to lock up when stopping quick. May just be over analysing here. I checked the plugs and they are perfect. What could cause it to be perfect with one rider but intermittently drag with 2. I thought belt or driven clutch but why would it drag and slow the sled quickly. Any ideas?

Thanks and have a great day!

Well, it looks like melted sliders. A buddy told a friend the symptoms and he nailed it immediately. I had a look and sure enough the slides melted and caused the sticking. I guess this is fairly common with new slides.

Have a great day!
