I got a 583 motor in a 94 STX. Since last year, I have had problems with keeping the sled idling. It will always start on two pulls but I have to keep priming it and feathering the throttle to keep it running. The minute I want to start the other sled up while this one idles it wants to cut out. In addition, even when the sled is warmed up, I have a problem accelerating, specifically moving from a dead stop. When I give it some throttle, the RPMs dive down and it wants to cut out. It just takes a while to accelerate. Any suggestions? I'm thinking its a gummed up carb or fuel filter. Any help is appreciated!

Yup it sounds like your pilot jets may be gummed up..Give the carbs a good cleaning and check the filter as well if you have one.

poor idle, stalling , poor performance = restricted air passage or slow speed jet (pilot).

Lean mixture, stalling, over heating = high speed (main jet)

Make sure your not using old gas.
