I have a 1979 JD Trailfire. when I rev the engine the head light burns out then shortly after the tail light goes. Any suggestions what causes this?

My 87 el tigre did the same exact thing and it was the voltage regulator. When the RPM's go up so does the voltage and it just let's it all go right through and burn out the bulbs. My handwarmers used to get so hot I could barely grab them. Just a suggestion - hope it's that easy for you. Good luck.
