My dim light bulb burnt out on my 1994 polaris indy 440 so I replaced it but within an hour of riding the new one was burnt out. I also replaced one of the rear ones but it burnt out too. The other rear one was still working though and it hasn't been replaced for a few years.

Could very well be a voltage regulator but also check and make sure all ground points are clean and tight including the regulator itself. Pop the seat off and check the wire running to the brake light for cuts and chaffes and of course make sure the bulb sockets are in good shape and not corroded.
