So I came accross a guy selling a JD Liquidfire 440- not sure of the year but im guessing 1978 ish, he says it runs and starts but needs a new top end in 1 cylinder. He also has a parts sled also a JD that is air cooled but it is in pretty bad shape missing parts. How hard are these to work on? Are the 2 interchangable as far as parts go except for the engine? This is really just a project to work on when im bored as we hardly ever get snow here. Thinking I could sell it once its restored or ebay it. Here is some pics.

Well I got it sat for $100, it starts but needs a engine job. Got to clean the gas tank and fix some things here and there. It has 787 miles on it. I think it is a 1980.

Next things to do are:

Clean gas tank and fix fuel pick-up

Pull engine

Convert to pre-mix if possible

New Seat cover

Rebuild engine

Fix airbox and go thru the carbs

Nice - looks like it isn't in too bad of shape from the outside anyway!

Keep us up to date and take lots of pictures!

That's a good find. I wouldn't convert to premix especially if you're restoring it and selling it for vintage values though. Good Luck with it.
