;) :) :p

It was in 1991, this motor, was a type 643, but it had 616.9cc displacment.

First formula with a 643 or 617 if you prefer...

76 bore, 68 stroke,
6.3 to 1 corrected compression ratio
7600 peak hp rpm

Alot of people who owned 617's had a hard time with them. I blew mine up after 19000Kms on it. It was a flawless motor for me though. I had a 92 Mach1 XTC 138". Good for breakin trail but once you were stuck the sweat started to pour.

thanks for the quick responses. My next question is when did skidoo first use the 583 motor and which carbs did they use?

thanks. Do you know when they changed to the 40mm carbs on the 583? I have an older 583 that has been ported which has 38mm on it. Just wondering if I should run 40's.

I believe that I have a 89 583. Did the older end dump pipes flow more air than the center dumps. Which would flow more a set of 38s with filters or 40s with a air box.

93 Formula Plus X was the first full production model, though the earlier limited build Plus X's probably had them too.
The 93 PLUS X had 38mm carbs and so di the 92 Plus X

I have the brochure right in front of me :D

The 1st 583 with 40mm was the 94 Formula Z :)

That what I get for going off the top of my head late in the evening. Thanks for the correction. Going from memory again, wasn't the Plus X engine the same as the 90 Mach 1 engine?

"This Stock B Eagle River 1992 World Champion sled features the same proven liquid-coooled,581cc(580 type)R.A.V.E.-valve Rotax twin that powered our 1990 Formula Mach 1.Power that's right on tap and ready to erupt with Mikuni VM 38 carbs and tuned pipe with spiral muffler"
