hello, i could use an opinion or two. i lost coolant (wire loose on temp sensor) and melted a piston. will replace with new pistons rings etc... and a repaired cyl head. my question is do i need to split the crank case and clean out any shavings or simply blow it out as best i can and go from there?   any help is greatly appreciated.

I have always used a solvent sprayer and washed the crankcase out very well. Blow the case clean with solvent & compressed air. You may have to do it more than once.
make sure you wear a breathing mask to protect your lungs from the solvent in the air. I also make sure that after you have it all cleaned and the crank turns smooth. that you lube the brgs in the rod ends and crank ends. You can spray 2cyle
oil on them. this is for startup. Make sure you lift the injection
lever on the pump to full flow while engine is idleing when first strated for a few minutes or until you cannot stand the smoke any more. LOL.
