Why low octane?
In very simple laymans terms. For the sake of argument all gasoline produces the same BTU's or energy. The Octance rating only changes the flash point allowing the motor to have higher compression without detonating before the spark plug fires. High Octane tends to take longer to get ignited and stays burning longer into the power stroke thus still igniting raw gas after the piston has hit dead bottom. The low octane fuel burns faster and thus you get the full affect of the burn during the power stroke. Where this fails is if you try and run under rated fuel over a longer distance. At 500 feet it is pretty hard to detonate a motor however at 660 it can be done and the motor and fuel should be adjusted accordingly.
