I'm looking for some advice on how to work with aluminum belly pans. I pulled the pan off my 79 Exciter to pound out some dents but after the first whack I see it didn't help the dent, it just cracked the pan. I've heard it helps to heat and cool the aluminum a bunch of times to soften it up before rework. I've also heard an air hammer and a small flathead tool will work for pounding out sharp dents from rocks and such. I've got some small dents in the tunnel that I'd like to work out too.

I know this is possible because I've seen some pretty nice sleds with some pretty rough "before" photos on the web.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
