I have a total new rebuild and my question is, when I put the stator plate back on I line up the marks with the plate and the motor block. The sled runs fine but now and then comming down from a hard throttle I get a slight back fire I have heard of people checking thier timming with a light is this to fine tune it or is the way I did it the right way and I should look for the cause some where else? I checked the marks on the stator and block and they are still dead on but i never marked where they were when I took it off. ??? If I need to use the light please explain how

I did some checking up , now tell me if im right I checked it by the light and theres 5 marks on the flywheel one long one and 2 shorter ones on each side of the longer one i  read that the longer line should line up with the mark on the block Is that right? because im 2 lines off but the original mark on the stator plate and block are still dead on which one is right?like i said earlier the motor runs great pulls out of the the hole well. should I asume the timming is good enough? the motor now has 245 miles on it, if the timming is a little off will it hurt the motor? ??? I was thinking also maybe the premix for break in might of been a factor i ran close to two full tanks of it that way any info will help just have a lot of money in it and i dont want to hurt this motor thanks.
My main concern is the timming right? If the marks are ligned up on the stator plate with the one on the block am I set or do I have to still use a timming light for on the flywheel. does anyone know?
