Removing Primary Clutch

Never mind! I just realized the error of my ways. The entire unit must be re

moved. Can anyone help with this? I just picked up an '81 ss440. The clutch does not seem to be engaging properly. Belt slips. I want to clean the shafts and check the clutch out. I have removed the retainer bolt, the clutch slides to the end of the shaft. The body/sled housing does not afford enough room for the clutch to be removed from the shaft. Do I need to loosen the motor mounts and move the engine to give me the room?
